Annoying Commercials and Annoyin Politicians

I'll start off with some gripes about annoying commercials:
1) You know that Dairy Queen commercial about those two juicy double-cheeseburgers on sale for $4.99?  They used the same cone-breaking/burger flip for 2 years now.  Get some new ideas, your majesty!!!
2) Beer commercials on prime TV...when kids are most likely to be lounging around their parents bored, doing their homework, or actually watching the news (well, only the nerdy kids).  Every beer commercial has sexy women with their boobs almost hanging out like Janet Jackson's famous Wardrobe Malfunction in 2004.  Are the commercial-makers parents themselves???
3) Those car commercials always drive me up the wall.  Showing off those fancy-schmancy richy cars with sexy ladies toller then their too-thin boyfriends that probably only 15% of the general population can actually afford.
4) The latest Expedia.ca commercial with grown-up men and women crying hysterically over snow.  Especially the last woman...she looks out the window, sees snow, starts crying hysterically, sees the expedia.ca website...goes into a complete state of shock...one second later she's hysterically happy and clapping for joy.  Like whatever.  BTW...if any sales are influenced by my blog, I want commission!!!!!!!! or I'll take a hysterical fit!
5) Those Leon's Furniture sales...talk about selling sexy...er, furniture.  That's it.  Furniture.

The Conservative set forth a motion to extend the Supreme Court ruling about the security certificate from one year to revision to three years.  Nah, said the Libs and Blocs, thus defeating the motion 159-124.  Sheesh.  What are those buggers trying to do?  Something political, but WHAT???  Liberal leader Stephane Dion, as we all know it has it in for the Prime Minister (he made fat jokes at the PM a few months ago...LOL!!!).  And now he's playing with National Security???  Mr. Dion, get over your childish notions and help protect us Canadians from those stupid terrorists who will stop at NOTHING to kill/terrorize as many people as possible.

So American VP Dick Cheney has been the target of a Taliban suicide attack in Afghanistan today.  Old Dicky-pick left unharmed, but 20 other people died and countless wounded.  The Taliban claimed responsibility.  Um, Mr. Dion?  Are you listening?  Or did you stop long time ago when you won that leadership race?  What happened in Afghanistan could happen in Canada!  Like that foiled Ontario plat a couple of years ago!  Mr. Dion?  (The story woulda been different if HE was the target...)

Oh, by the way, for us Canadians, the clock will spring forward one hour on Sunday, March 11th instead of the last Sunday of the month.

Misbehaving Sinus

I'm sitting here all stuffed up.  Got a major sinus problem here.  In fact I've been so sick I couldn't keep up with the news or do anything else I enjoy.  Bummer.  I mostly been in the chat room at www.eliyah.com talking about the Bible but had a hard time even focusing on that

I found out about ginger root's healing properties.  A little spicy, though.  I had some apple-cinnamon flavored Neo-Citron w/shredded ginger root and a spoonful of honey, and it's not too bad, actually.  Last week, I think, I made chicken soup...just boiled tiny chunks of raw chicken until they were cooked, then added small chumks of ginger root and garlic cloves, then last I added frozon veggies.  Put some pepper on top, and is it ever delicious!!!  Ginger root's good for headaches, nausea, and sore throat.  Raw garlic cloves are good for colds.

Anyway, I'm gonna sign off before I keel over...LOL!

Security Certificate Ruling Rant

So the Supreme Court of Canada ruled today that the Security Certificate system is unconstitutional.  A security certificate holds a terror suspect in jail without being formally charged while the intelligence is investigating the (suspect's) case.  Some suspects wait for years before being brought to trial; others are slotted for deportation.  It runs into the fundamental human right to a fair trial.

Which is good news to the detainees, BUT the Supreme Court will suspend today's ruling for one year while the federal gov't go over the anti-terrorism laws to figure out how they're gonna protect us Canadians.  Hmmm...kinda puts the feds between a rock and a hard place.

Although I believe one should be innocent until proven guilty, I'm very wary of those involved in terror plots, and even those suspected to have terrorist connections.  I reallyreallyreally hope they come up with a way to detain suspects and protect us at the same time.  Those radical Muslims are pretty sneaky.  All the media attention to terrorists being Muslims, one cannot help being, well, scared.

We live in a democratic society.  I'm willing to concede that not all Muslims are terror-minded.  But I reallyreallyreally feel this is an important issue.  How will Canada protect us (national security) citizens when we have homegrown terrorists plotting to overtake Parliament like they plotted (but failed) on July 2004?  How can we deny the fact that every one of the terror suspects are practicing Muslims?  Hard questions; no easy answers...

Valentine's Day Rant

Happy Valentine's Day? Or Happy Anniversary of the Execution of Some Dead Catholic Saint's Day?  Okay, so there was this guy, a Catholic priest (Gallentine, Valentine, or Valentinius-the latter spelling makes more sense) who was clubbed and beheaded by then Roman Emperor Claudius II in anywhere from 269-273 AD for secretly marrying couples.  At the time, there was a problem with certain intruders of Rome.  The Goths, who were opposed to Rome, and inside Rome's borders, were the Christians who opposed the pagan festivities.  (Christianity has been an underground religion since the reign of Nero, about the time when the Apostle Paul was still alive.)  So, talking from Rome's point of view, these two "enemies" were threatening Rome and all it stood for, and the army was suffering because the men didn't want to leave their families/loved ones.  All this in mind, Emporer Cloudius made marriages illegal so family ties would not be as strong, and to beef up their army.  But St. Valentine continued to marry young lovers in secret.  When he was found out, the emporer threw him in jail.  During his imprisonment, St. Valentine fell in love with the jailor's daughter, who was totally blind.  By faith, he healed the girl, and sent love notes to her.  It is reported the last note was signed "From Your Valentine."  Meanwhile, as Emporer Claudius' attempt to convert St. Valentine to paganism failed, he finally sentenced the priest to be clubbed and beheaded.  The date was February 14th.  Now, if you go read the official Roman Catholic version of the story, you'll probably find a much tamer version...in English some weird marriage activist with absolutely no sex drive.

So at the same time in February, there was this really huge love fest in Rome.  It was called Lupercalia, held in honor of the goddess Juno.  It a big sex/love/marriage festival (and the Emporer disaproved it due to military reasons) that the Catholic Church shunned for morality reasons.  While Lupercalia was on Feb 15th, the Catholics compromised by putting on a much tamer version of the holiday on the 14.  By sheer coinfidence St. Valentine was executed on Feb 14th.  In 496 AD Pope Gelasius decided to ordain Feb 14th as a feast day in honor of their beloved martyr, Saint Valentine. (er, the one with -ahem- no sex drive.)

Now, Valentine's Day is full of candy, flower, and all kinds of mush crap.  Totally cheesy, if you ask me.  I mean, knowing the morbid history behind it all, why would we Christians/believers in our Messiah Yeshua want to celebrate such a holiday?  It may seem innocent, but now that I present the history, you believers are responsible for what you know  My husband and I don't celebrate the holiday.  Waste of money, time, and causes too many holes in your teeth.

Children Has Rights, Too!

Canada has 2 major issues that need to be addressed...and both involve innocent children who have yet to be able to speak for themselves.  One is robbing them of their innocence; the other is robbing them of their knowledge.

Child pornography is on the rise.  PM Stephen Harper has cracked down on crime, but unfortunately, these porn rings are international.  One site had 8,000 hits in one day!  I've even heard rumors of that stuff being uploaded to YouTube.  I shudder at the thought...just think...I used to be a YouTube member!  We live in a highly sexualized society...with everything at our fingertips...including tools to shatter the lives of innocent children.  People only think of themselves.  They never stop to realize the consequences of their actions...one generation of abused children will bring hardships.  It'll drain the healthcare system as it provide counselling services for those who need it; medicare services to repair broken bodies (inflicted by abuser or the abused making wrong decisions).  Today's society lets pretty much everything go (sexually).  I say to the abusers/those with fetishes, please do not act upon your feelings.  Consider your actions.  Get help while you still can.  And I say to the Gov't of Canada (and all international countries as well) adopt a zero-tolerance policy about child porn.  Our children are our future generation...our future leaders.

Children also have rights to quality early learning childcare.  Stephen Harper has taken the money out of the hands of daycare centers and into the hands of parents.  As a result, daycare centers across the country has either closed their doors or raised their fees.  So the money in parents' hands is only paying for the fee increases.  I honestly don't know what this "extra" money is supposed to do.  But I do know this money is being wasted.  Here is a link where you can sign an online petition to get childcare funding directed to the daycare centeres.  www.buildchildcare.ca  The link is also under the "Cool Websites" list to your left.  This petition will then be presented to the Prime Minister, and hopefully, he'll take this matter to heart in the spring budget.  I also urge you to contact your local MP and express your concerns.  If you're outside Canada, but are a Canadian citizen, please sign the petition as well.

A Potpurri of Rants

I said good-bye to YouTube a few weeks ago.  Deleted my account and stuck my nose up in the air with a self-righteous "Hmmmf!".  I tell ya...there is so much crazy garbage on that site...lots of swearing and sex, and of course, Sadly Insane's execution...the illicit one.  I think the execution vid did it for me.  Plus, I knew the Holy Spirit was convicting me.  Plus, the comments...people don't even know the word "respect"!  So, yeah,  all that led to my decision.

PM Stephen Harper's making "election noises"...not with hints, but with election-style speeches and promises.  The man who once didn't give the environment the time of day now is going green.  Has he been threatened by Stephane Dion's Liberals???

Leading scientists and other environment-loving brainiacs from around the world met in Paris, France, to do up a report on climate change. They sent out an apocolyspe-style warning that the earth is rapidly heating up due to our consumerism.  Greenhouse gasses are chowing down on the much-needed ozone layer.  Ice is melting.  Species are dying out/already extinct.  The sun is scorching everything in sight and handing out free cancer cells like candies to children.  Our greed is spiraling outta control.  To many, adjusting to more a more greener lifestyle is akin to adjusting to life in Mahar Arar's torture chamber in Syria.  Though some of us are green-conscious, it'll take more than a few to slow down the global warming.  It'll take sacrifices on ALL of our part...little or big.  Seriously, there's no need for everyone in the family to each have a car.  Or travel two and three hours a day to work.  Or for mass industries to produce mass junk to satisfy our greed.

Finally, a red-hot love triangle gone wrong.  Take 3 astronaunts...one man single; another woman suspected of being in love with the guy, and single; and a married mother who's totally jealous of the other woman that she stalked the first woman 14 hours straight in her car, wearing an adult diaper to avoid pit stops in order to assault the first woman with pepper spray...and murder her.  (Thankfully, she never got past the pepper-spray part of her plan.)  You are talking about 3 adult space brainiacs who work for NASA.  Plastered all over the news.  How immature can people get?  And why in the world is this even on the news???

Two Types of Terror

Canada's first sextuplets were born in BC January 7th.  Two died already, and now the province has taken temporary custody three of the remaining 4.  Why?  Because the parents are Jehovah's witnesses and refused to allow much-needed blood transfusion treatment in order for them to survive.  The JW parents based their arguement that their religion teaches to obstain from blood products; including transfusions, and they use the Scripture verse Acts 15:29.  How many times do they go to the gracery store and purchase chicken pieces, steak, ground meat, and it's very obvious the red liquid surrounding the meat is blood?  How many times do they put the meat into the frying pan/oven and cook it, then eat it...not even realizing that some traces of blood is still in the meat?  I would take care of the "smaller issues" like that before tampering with innocent children's lives, Watchtower Society!

Conflicting info is coming out about our notorious Mahar Arar.  Top Jordan officials reported Arar arriving in Jordan by US plane.  Seeing Arar's name on a terror watch list, officials told him to leave Jordan, giving Arar a choice of country...in other words, go to any other country; anyone but ours.  Arar chose Syria, his homeland.  (Jordan is an ally to us in the War on Terrorism.)  You know, I honestly didn't expect to hear much more about Arar, now that us taxpayers made him a multi-millionaire.  But hearing this on the evening news tonight got me reallyreallyreally concerned.  What if he uses that money for a terror plot?  I'm sorry, I know I sound very cynical here.  My hubby told me that something smelled fishy about the whole situation the day PM Stephen Harper issued the apology/compensation.  Now, I don't take much stock in the Bush Administration, but I find myself agreeing with them when they refused to take Arar's name off the terror-watch list, after I heard about the Jordan report.  I hope Mr. Harper researches more into this case.
